WHITE House player Billy McCreery hit an excellent 14-darter on the opening night of action in the Middleton Men’s Thursday League.

But it only came by way of consolation, as his team was beaten 4-3 by Duke of Wellington.

Bob Brown’s 19-darter contributed to a 5-2 victory for Friendship over Middleton Con Club.

Boarshaw WMC were also 5-2 winners, at the Victoria.

Reigning champions Grove Inn (Blackley) started the defence of their title with a convincing 7-0 whitewash of Middleton Junction, while Woodside WMC, last season's runners-up, beat Gardeners Arms 4-3.

Oddfellows went down by the odd leg in seven to Higher Blackley Con Club.

The Middleton Men's Monday League started with the Paul Anderson Memorial knockouts.

Arthur Ingham (Gardeners, Grimshaw Lane) won the darts event by beating reigning individual champion Paul Russon (Gardeners Arms, Sandy Lane) in the final.

The crib trophy went to Gerry Dale and Phil Broughton from the Lancashire Fold. They beat the Joiners duo of Doug and Paul Rooney in the final.
