Borough honour for Olympic star

OLYMPIC silver medallist Keri-Anne Payne is being given a civic reception at Rochdale Town Hall this evening.
The former Cardinal Langley student was touched out in a thrilling finish to the 10km open water swim in Beijing after she and team-mate Cassie Patten had headed unbeaten world champion Larisa Ilchenko and other opponents for most of the way.
Keri-Anne was with Rochdale club Aquabears before joining Stockport Metro.
On her arrival back home in Heywood Keri-Anne said: "To get a medal was amazing. We didn't have a tactic, we just went out and swam.
"During the medal presentation I was just stunned. The number of people watching was incredible.
"I just feel so proud, of myself and all my team-mates. We never expected to do so well, and this means the world to all of us."
