Paris bronze for Olympic swimmer
26/ 6/2008
FORMER Cardinal Langley student Keri-Anne Payne consolidated her international reputation last week when she collected a bronze medal from the French Open meeting in Paris.
With preparation for her Olympic debut reaching its final stages, 20-year-old Keri-Anne, along with Stockport Metro club-mates and fellow Olympic qualifiers Michael Rock and Cassie Patten, was part of a 13-strong British team competing in the last international competition before Beijing.
The Brits came away with an impressive 14 medals.
The competition, in the outdoor La Croix Catelan pool in the heart of Paris, mirrored the program the swimmers will face in Beijing, with heats in the afternoon and finals in the mornings.
Former European Champion Keri-Anne, who has qualified for the inaugural Olympic 10k Open Water Marathon as well as two pool events in Beijing, claimed the bronze medal in the women’s 400m individual medley, finishing in 4-46.36.
Her last stop en route to China will be the ASA National Championships at the new Liverpool Aquatics Centre, where she will be joined by seven more Stockport Metro team-mates looking to finish the British season in style.
