Goalball finalists

FOLLOWING a hugely successful league season, in which they finished third in a highly competitive division, the Strike Ten based Rochdale VIpers 2 team qualified for the BBS Westfield Fours National Ten-pin Bowling final held at the Hollywood Bowl in Sheffield.

Twelve teams were divided into two pools of six.

Unfortunately, and in spite of some outstanding individual scores, VIpers found themselves in sixth place in their pool meaning they played the team which finished sixth in the other pool to decide overall 11th and 12th places. They did win the play-off.

For the Rochdale team of Amjad Khan, Sally Castle, Daffyd Williams, Joseph Smith and Saad Mughal it was a day never to be forgotten.

It was the second time the team, some of them from Middleton, had qualified for the finals in only their third season in existence.

There were some commendable individual scores, notably Amjad Khan’s 141, and the team managed to put together seven century scores during the day.

Two of the team, Saad Mughal and Joseph Smith, were juniors competing in a senior event, but they were not overwhelmed by the occasion and battled as hard as anyone.

The event was won by the powerful Wyre Wizards A team from Blackpool.

VIpers 2 can now boast the national ranking of 11th out of the 27 teams which currently compete in the BBS Ten-Pin Bowling section.
