Senior riders excel to become national champions

A TEAM from Rochdale and District Riding Club, which included Middleton riders, has become the British Riding Club’s national indoor show-jumping champions.
The team qualified from an area competition held at Osbaldeston in March, and took their place in the finals at Hartpury College in Gloucester.
Stacey Holden (Mouse), Kate Millington (Wizard of Oz), Jessica Thompson (Keira) and Emily Johnston (Dragonwyck Delilah Grey) were managed by Jaime Sanderson and posted enough clears in the first round to go through to the next stage.
The second round proved more difficult, but again the Rochdale team was faultless, and it was on into a jump-off against Charville - winners for the last two years, and Royal Wood.
An exciting climax saw all of the Rochdale riders go clear to win the trophy.
Success continued into the second day when the Rochdale junior team of Sophie Brown (Goldie), Jennifer Hackworth (Tulira Rose), Brooklyn Lumb (Classical Express) and Katie Hartley (Treflan Cai) finished a good sixth out of 30 teams.
