DARTS: PAUL Russon (Gardeners, Sandy Lane) claimed victory in the Middleton Men’s Monday League individual knockout.
The doubles title went to Gary Hoolickin and his grandson Anthony from the Joiners’ team.
The Hoolickins denied Russon a remarkable double when they beat him and partner Pete Stones 3-2 in the final.
Russon and Stones had beaten Terry Stirrup and Keith Wright (Gardeners, Grimshaw Lane) in the semi-finals. The eventual winners had overcome a challenge from Steve Reynolds and Arthur Ingham, also from the Gardeners.
Russon beat Gary Hoolickin in the last eight of the individuals before reaching the final with victory over Wayne Boland from the Joiners.
His final success of 3-2 was against Woodman’s Darren Dewar who had beaten Railway and Linnet’s Steve Grimes in the semis.
League secretary Eugene Goan thanked the Gardeners (Sandy Lane) for their hospitality and said: "It was a great night of darts."

The other teams involved are Grove ( Blackley), Higher Blackley Con Club and Charlestown.
