Con Club title hopes take a knock

DARTS: MIDDLETON Conservative Club’s hopes of catching leaders Grove in the Middleton Men’s Thursday League took a jolt last week.

They were beaten 4-3 by Duke of Wellington, Grove’s Blackley neighbours.

Grove, who beat Victoria with the help of a 14-darter from Steve Whitehead, have a 10-point lead over second-placed Woodside WMC, with the Con Club and Cotton Tree a further two and a half away in joint third place.

Woodside’s Gary Ward hit a 14-arrow leg in their 5-2 win at Higher Blackley Con Club, while Cotton Tree won 5-2 at Charlestown.

Hare and Hounds suffered a rare defeat in Division One of the Middleton Ladies League.

They were beaten 4-3 by Friendship, the score by which they had beaten them in October.

Hares have a two-point lead in the title race over joint second Millbeck and Jolly Carter.

Millbeck were 5-2 winners over Old Cock. Jolly Carter recorded their sixth success on the bounce when they beat Hebers WMC 5-2.

Carters maintained their promotion bid in Division Two with their 10th win of the winter.

They beat Kenyon 4-3.

At the other end of the table Old David beat Woodman by a resounding 6-1 scoreline to join them on four points.
