John nets top trophy

YOUNG anglers netted awards at an annual prize giving ceremony.
Junior members of Middleton Angling Society turned out for their traditional awards evening at the Olde Boars Head last week.
John Gorman (pictured) took first place in the 2007 championship.
Anthony Bland, junior secretary, said: “John is an up-and-coming junior member who is getting noticed nationally and is looking towards a great future in the sport.”
Second place was taken by determined angler Cayne Fanning, while third place went to Stephanie Bland.
Mr Bland said the evening was a great success and the society, which was formed in 1845, was encouraging new members to join.
He added: “We have been to many venues throughout the North West, and are looking at more venues further afield.”
