DARTS: IT WAS the match of the week as unbeaten Grove (Blackley) met unbeaten Woodside WMC in the Middleton Men’s Thursday League.

The outcome was a win for Grove by the odd game in seven.

They also won the gallon match to go six points clear at the top of that contest.

Grove now have an eight-point lead over second-placed Middleton Con Club who beat Lancashire Fold 6-1.

Steve Shaw lit up this encounter with a 15-darter.

Fourth-placed Cotton Tree beat Boarshaw WMC 4-3, and that was also the score by which Middleton Junction beat Victoria for their second success of the season.

Hare and Hounds suffered only their second defeat in 11 matches when they went down 5-2 to Oddfellows in Division One of the Middleton Ladies’ League.

Hares still hold a six-point advantage over the chasing pack which includes Jolly Carter who chalked up their third 5-2 victory on the trot in their fixture against Woodside A.

Woodside B experienced defeat for the first time this season in Division Two when beaten 4-3 by Carters.

Old David celebrated a long-awaited win after overcoming Assheton Arms.
