Connor shines in a Tidy display by England

THE ENGLAND Girls golf team won the Home Internationals tournament earlier this month with the help of Manchester Golf Club member Rachel Connor, and former member Kelly Tidy.
The competition was played at Panmure and included England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, with England starting things off against Ireland.
They didn’t make the best of starts and trailed 2-1 after the foursomes matches.
It was Tidy, now a member of Royal Birkdale, and her partner Alex Peters who staged a magnificent comeback to get a point on the board for England.
They were four down after seven holes but didn't lose another to take the match 2 and 1. Unfortunately Connor and partner Heidi Baek lost their game 3 and 1.
However, the girls soon got into gear and lost only one singles match out of six.
Connor impressed with a dominating performance, while Tidy again played a gritty round and took victory on the 18th.
England took the match 6-3 overall to move on to face Scotland the next day with confidence.
England made short work of Scotland’s girls. They won all three foursomes, three singles and halved a singles match to record a 6.5-2.5 victory.
Connor and Baek gave a strong performance to win their foursome, as did Tidy and Peters.
Connor played superbly in her singles match to finish three under-par and defeat her opponent 8 and 7. Tidy slipped to a narrow 2 and 1 defeat in her singles match.
Two wins out of two meant England progressed to the final in which they beat Wales 7-2 to pick up the Stroyan Cup.
England got off to the best possible start by winning all three foursomes. Then in the singles the team lost only two matches.
Connor and Tidy both secured 2 and 1 victories without falling behind at any stage.
Team captain Julie Brown commented on her team's overall 3-0 clean sweep of the competition.
She said: "The girls outplayed everyone, and all the other captains and coaches commented on the standard of their play."
