Dog clinch Shield victory over Villa

The Challenge Shield match between struggling Middleton Sunday League Premier Division sides Dog Inn and Cardinal Villa went the way of home side Dog.

They clinched a 5-3 victory courtesy of goals from Heaton (2), Hutton, walker and Owen. Crawley (2) and Richardson replied for the visitors.

Langley Rangers, second bottom in the Premier, faced a daunting prospect when they entertained top-of-the-table Radclyffe Arms.

The visitors continued their run of good form with a comfortable 6-1 win, Gibbons (2), Brogden, C Bennett, Wilson and Darlington netting their goals while Strowger fired the hosts' consolation.

League action saw Langley Celtic close the gap at the top of the Premier Division, beating Woodman 6-1 to move above Alliance into second place.

A hat-trick from Landregan, two from Mathews and one from L Neville handed them victory, Tarry responding for Woodman.

Alliance dropped to third after a 4-4 draw with Gardeners Sandy Lane – though with 10 points and a game in hand on leaders Radclyffe, they are still very much in the chase. Alliance goals came from Robinson, McThomas and Hudson (2), Gardeners replying through Jepson, Burton (2) and Burn.

The Division One game between Middleton Colts and Our Ladys was postponed, as was Old Cock versus St Clares.
