Barton is agent of victory in opener

TWO goals from Lee Hanson put Alliance on the road to victory in their Premier Division opener against Langley Rangers.

Rangers took a 2-1 lead, with James Kay on target twice for them, but the loss of three key players to cricketing calls told defensively as James Hanson and Mark Wilson netted and made it 4-2 to Alliance by half-time.

That was it as far as the scoring was concerned as, with Mark Barton pulling the strings in the centre of midfield, Alliance romped home.

Hebers beat St Clares 3-0 in Division One, both sides playing their part in an entertaining game on an increasingly heavy pitch.

Colin Brown, Tom Crossley and Dave Donnelly found the target as Hebers – who are based at the Hollin Lane working men’s club of the same name this season – made a good start to the campaign.

In the division’s other match Our Lady’s were 4-1 winners over Old Cock.

Booth hit two and Smith and Wilkinson also netted for Lady’s while OC, led by skipper Tom Quinn and goalkeeper Reece Edwards, kept plugging away and were rewarded with a goal from Derrig.
