First silverware for United team

SILVERWARE has been won for the first time by the FC United of Manchester Academy team
The team, a majority of which were signed from the highly successful Manchester Youth FC under 17s, won the Umbro International Tournament held in Manchester.
Most of the United players are from the Middleton and Moston areas.
United qualified for the semi-finals from a tight group which included San Antonio (Texas), Wellingborough, Crook, Macclesfield Town, the Isle of Man national youth team and Middleton Colts.
United met Poynton in their semi which went to a penalty shoot-out won 4-2.
The final was a repeat of their first group match, and they won 1-0.
Three of the lads have already has a taste of senior team football in a friendly against Abbey Hey. They were Jake Edwards, Nick Swirad and Sam Freakes.
