Sunday teams wanted

19/ 6/2008

AN INVITATION has gone out for new teams to join the Middleton Sunday League next season.

A number of resignations at the end of last season means there are around 17 teams pencilled in for next season. League officials have already had two approaches from teams interested in joining, and would welcome more.

Among those who will not be reappearing next year are Blackley Alliance, Carters Rhodes, Premier Autobodies and VASA, while Middleton Boys are understood to be reforming under a new name.

Interested teams must play home games within 10 miles of Middleton town centre.

League secretary Peter Johnson said: "We have lost a few teams, but that happens every year.

"As it stands we would operate next season with two divisions, but we would prefer it to be three if there are a couple more teams interested in joining us.

"Last season we provided referee cover for 97 per cent of our games, and we offer clubs a good league competition and cup opportunities."

The league has set a deadline of 30 July for applications which should be made to Peter Johnson on 07903 012719 or via email at middletonsundayleague@ntlworld.com
