Hectic ending for Middleton teams

IT HAS been a huge last couple of weeks to the season for Middleton Boys, with several age group teams playing in cup finals or title deciders.

Middleton under eights won the Division Two title last week after losing only one of 24 games.

They capped their season off with a win in the Salford Cup final.

The team was led by captain Tom Markham, and inspired by striker Cameron Boland who scored a sensational 83 goals in his first season with the club. Manager Alan Gough said: "I’m lucky to have such a talented group of players, and long may it continue."

Boys’ under nines also had an excellent year. They finished league runners-up, only three points behind Salford Juniors.In their cup final they beat Salford Juniors 2-1.

Middleton took the lead through Will Shawcross. Salford equalised early in the second half, and a winner proved hard to come by, with both defences in superb form.

It was left to 41-goal Will Shawcross to grab the winner.

Boys’ player of the final was Harry Cottrill.

Boys’ under 13s won the Challenge Cup, and for the second consecutive season they reached the County Cup final only to be beaten.
