Lyons and Mack on target in cup win

1/ 5/2008

MANCHESTER Youth under 17s won the Manchester County Under 18s Cup when they beat Salford City in the final at Littleton Road.

Manchester started the game very nervously and received a footballing lesson from the very strong Salford team.

They didn’t help themselves by giving the ball away far too cheaply, and they were given the run-around in a torrid first half.

Robert Froggatt had to make a top-class save to stop Salford from taking the lead.

The second half saw Manchester up their game, and they took the lead when Jack Lyons nipped in between a defender and the keeper to hit the net.

It was then Manchester’s turn to hand out a lesson as they kept possession with pass and move football.

Five minutes from time Buckley won the ball at centre back and fired it out to Sam Freakes. He clipped it over the Salford defence and Jamie Mack slammed it home
