Up for the cup, cup, cup

24/ 4/2008

MANCHESTER Youth under 17s lined themselves up for another trophy when they beat Middleton Colts in a Tameside League Cup semi-final.

For 20 minutes it was even, but Manchester then took the lead. Sam Freakes delivered a superb cross and Jamie Wolden volleyed home.

Ten minutes into the second half Alex Sutcliffe hit a long ball upfield, and a mix-up in the Colts’ defence saw the ball drop to Jack Lyons who tapped home the easiest of chances.

Jamie Mack then hit the woodwork with the goal at his mercy, and Colts pulled one back when Louis Green netted from the spot after McHale had been upended.

It became 3-1 to Manchester when Osahon Osawe raced onto a loose ball and hammered it home, and 4-1 when Jamie Mack netted from the spot after he had been brought down.

Kyle Woods headed down a cross to set up Mack for the fifth.

Manchester now meet Stockport Junior Blues in the Challenge Cup on Ashton United’s ground tomorrow.

On Sunday they meet Salford City at Littleton Road, Salford, in the Manchester County under 18s cup.

Next Tuesday they face Glossop North End in a showdown for the League Cup.
