Another blank weekend adds to fixture problems

A SECOND successive blank weekend has left Middleton’s Sunday footballers facing a gruelling last month of the season.
Rain washed out the entire fixture list last weekend, and with a backlog of league and cup fixtures to make up, night fixtures begin next Tuesday.
This coming Sunday sees an attempt to put the HPS Challenge Cup back on track.
Division One high-flyers Woodman will be hoping to pull off a giant-killing act against Premier Division basement club VASA in the outstanding second round tie.
Langley Rangers and Langley Celtic clash in the pick of the third round matches.
Celtic could be forgiven for having one eye on next Tuesday night’s fixture when they travel to face Blackley Alliance knowing a win over their closest rivals would put them in a very strong position - six points to the good - in the race for the title.
At the other end of the table Langley Rangers cannot afford a slip against VASA if they are to stay in the Premier Division, while Cardinal Villa also need the points from their away game against Alliance.
