Own goal sets Boys on the road

MIDDLETON Boys under 11s B were 4-0 away winners over Summerseat Athletic in a North Bury Junior League clash.

Middleton started brightly and soon had Athletic on the back foot.

The deadlock was broken when John Ezard's ball to the near post was headed into his own net by a Summerseat defender.

Middleton were wasteful in front of goal and had to settle for a 1-0 lead at half time.

They were too strong for their opponents in the second half.

Within a minute of the restart John Ezard’s probing ball through the middle found Corey Goodey bearing down on goal, and he drew the keeper to slot home.

A third goal followed some good passing. Simon Riley’s cross was met by a diving header from Goodey.

Luke Anderson swept a cross into the path of Simon Riley for the fourth.

Oliver Cleworth was named as Middleton’s player of the match.
