More problems for SL planners

HEAVY overnight snow wiped out the Middleton Sunday League programme and gave fixture planners a new headache in what has been a real stop/start season.

Langley Celtic, favourites to lift the league title, have six games left to play and they hold a three point advantage over second-placed Blackley Alliance, having played a game less.

Indeed, Celtic have dropped only one point all season, that in a 2-2 draw with Carters Rhodes on the opening day of the season way back in September.

Celtic and Carters meet again this coming Sunday, at Parkfield.

Alliance face a tough test against third placed Radclyffe Arms, on Bowlee. For Radclyffe it will be their first outing since 24 February when they drew with Langley Rangers.

At the other end of the Premier Division the relegation places are still very much up for grabs.

Third from bottom Langley Rangers host bottom of the pile VASA at Bowlee knowing that anything other than three points would leave them vulnerable in the closing stages of the season.

VASA’s last two games saw them record a league draw and then a cup victory over Cardinal Villa – the other side in what appears to be a perm two from three scenario for the drop.

Villa host Alliance at Parkfield.

In Division One, Woodman play their penultimate league game of the season hoping to extend their one-point advantage over FC Radclyffe when second from bottom St Clares visit Parkfield.

At Cardinal Langley, Old David’s could ease their relegation worries by taking the points from their match against basement club Old Cock.

Middleton Boys continue their quest for their first win of the season when they host Charlestown at Bowlee in Division Two.
