Carters in goal storm

20/ 3/2008

CARTERS Rhodes were in top goal scoring form in the Middleton League’s HPS Challenge Cup at Parkfield on Sunday.

They hit the back of the net seven times in their second round match against Middleton Boys.

Coombes led the way with a brace, while Denzil Evans, Lee Matthews, Roran and regular goalkeeper Gary Wilson were also on the scoresheet. Kevin Rowe replied for the Boys.

Langley Rangers put in a gutsy performance against Premier League title contenders Blackley Alliance before losing 3-1, John Zenzuk scoring their goal.

In the outstanding first round tie VASA recorded their first win of the season. David Burtenshaw netted twice and John Mulcahy hit the other in their 3-1 defeat of Cardinal Villa. Steve Hill replied for the home side.

All the games scheduled for Bowlee on Sunday were cancelled, including Brunswick’s Subsidiary Cup game against Red Barn.

No such problems at Cardinal Langley where FC Radclyffe won their game in hand to go two points clear of Woodman at the top of Division One.

Jepson bagged a hat-trick, while Munson, Vayro and Ryan completed a comfortable victory. Donoghue replied.
