Woodman 3 FC Radclyffe 1

George Dodds
6/ 3/2008

WOODMAN answered the rallying call of their manager Paul Williams in emphatic fashion.

Williams had declared that Sunday’s clash at Parkfield was a must-win game for his side in the battle for the Division One title.

By becoming the first team to take points off Radclyffe this season Woodman pulled to within two points of their opponents at the top of the table.

Both sides have five games left to play and have lost only to each other, so Radclyffe still remain favourites for the crown.

Heavy overnight rain again decimated Sunday’s fixtures, leaving the clash of the titans as the only game to go ahead.

With both teams more comfortable when they can get the ball on the ground and pass it around, it was always going to be a case of who adapted best in conditions which were heavy underfoot with a strong wind whipping across Parkfield.

Woodman have benefited from the timely return to the ranks of centre forward Steve Goodier at the sharp end of the season.

Goodier scored 40 goals for the club last season, but has been unavailable due to work commitments for much of this season.

On Sunday he produced a man of the match performance, holding the ball up superbly in difficult conditions and linking up well with fellow striker Ryan Lewis.

Both teams played their part in a cracking encounter but it was Woodman who found the target when it mattered.

Ryan Worsley, Darren Gulley and Lewis were the men on target, leaving Woodman celebrating at the final whistle.
