Boys win top clash

21/ 2/2008

MIDDLETON Boys under nines were back in action last weekend when they travelled to play Flixton Falcons in a top of the table clash.

Middleton needed to win to stay in contention for the league title which is being hotly contested by five teams. They played some excellent football and were rewarded with a goal when Connor Wall struck from 20-yard.

Middleton took their slim lead into the second half and after a few minutes they went 2-0 up.

Will Shawcross delivered a pin-point cross from the right onto the head of scorer Harry Cottrill,

Daniel Crompton and Callum Bailey went close, while keeper Jordan Rigg pulled off a couple of good saves.

Harry Cottrill scored the third for Middleton to make the game safe.

Player of the match for Middleton was Daniel Crompton for his overall tireless performance.

MIDDLETON Boys under 11s B had to work hard for their 3-2 away win over Marauders Panthers.

Marauders opened the scoring on 10 minutes with a shot through a crowded area, and they would have increased their advantage but for some good goalkeeping by Daniel Ducie.

The second half saw a different Middleton team which created some good chances.

Marauders eventually succumbed to the pressure when Tunmise Ojo chased an intended backpass and poked the ball home.

Middleton soon added a second. A corner cross from John Ezard found Luke Barry at the near post for him to head home.

Another goal came when Josh Gorton crossed for Oliver Cleworth to crash into the net.

It was almost full time when Marauders claimed their second goal.

Marcel McPherson was Middleton’s player of the match.

ABACUS Media travelled to play Bedians in a Lancashire and Cheshire League premier division match and won 3-0

Bedians were reduced to 10 men within the first five minutes. An off the ball incident resulted in a straight red card,.

Media took their time in using their extra man to advantage in the first half, and they created few chances.

But they finally broke the deadlock when a loose ball dropped to Steven Holden at the back post for him to drive home.

Media knew they needed another goal to kill off the game. It didn’t take long in coming.

New centre forward Andy Cannon scored his second goal in two games by coolly slotting home from inside the box.

Media continued to push and created numerous chances.

Nicky Bracken hit an upright and forced good saves from the Bedians’ keeper.

A third came when a clearance from Matt Clarke fell into the path of Liam Sweeney who wandered round a defender and knocked the ball past an advancing keeper.

Media seconds went out of the Wray Cup in the second round, beaten 4-2 by Stoconians.
