Media spot on for the points

WITH the first team out of action it was the turn of Abacus Media seconds to fly the flag in the Lancashire and Cheshire League.

They travelled to play Hollingworth Old Boys and beat them 2-1.

Media couldn’t have started any worse, as within the first 10 minutes they fell behind.

A great deal of character was needed at this stage in order for Media not to capitulate and go down to another defeat.

Media definitely had the bit between their teeth and they levelled thanks to a touch of luck.

A corner cross was cleared to the edge of the Hollingworth box where veteran centre half Dave Cadman charged down the loose ball. At the same time he was taken out by the goalkeeper and Andy Durcan stepped up to take the penalty.

The keeper made a great save but parried the ball into the path of Martin Hoolickin who hit a post from a yard out. Thankfully the ball rebounded to Seb Barker who made no mistake.

Another penalty, awarded for handball, was knocked home by Durcan, and Media were in front before half time.

The second half saw some tired legs on a pitch which cut up by the minute.

The only real chance came when Hollingworth hit the bar following a corner.

Greg Carty managed to block numerous shots late on, and Media held out.
