Close - but Boys win

MIDDLETON Boys under 11s B ran out 4-1 away winners over Radcliffe Juniors in a North Bury Junior League match which was closer than the scoreline suggests.

Radcliffe came out of the blocks keen and eager. They were sharper to the ball and deservedly took the lead on eight minutes when a mix-up in the Middleton defence presented them with a chance.

For a time Middleton were frustrated in their attempts to get back into the game, but they eventually claimed an equaliser against the run of play.

Oliver Cleworth’s pin-point corner found Luke Barry who powered in an unstoppable header.

The second half began as the first, with Radcliffe dominating midfield, and they would have taken the lead again but for some brilliant saves by Daniel Ducie.

A touch of brilliance then gave Middleton the advantage. Luke Barry’s determination took him through two challenges and his cross was met by Corey Goodey who volleyed past the keeper.

This goal seemed to spur Middleton on, and they extended their lead. Tunmise Ojo’s shot was cleared to the edge of the area and picked up by Simon Riley who unleashed a left-foot drive into a corner of the net.

With only minutes remaining Corey Goodey intercepted a poor clearance and put Ojo through for him to beat the keeper to the ball and prod it into the net.

Simon Riley was player of the match.
