Nap hand for Media

MIDDLETON’S Abacus Media hosted Bedians last Saturday afternoon and stormed to a 5-0 win in the Lancashire and Cheshire League Premier Division match.

Fielding virtually a full strength team, Media were confident going into this match.

After a slow start in the league this season, three points was a must if Media were to kick-start their campaign.

Media began in control and took the game to Bedians, creating some great passing links in the middle and utilising the flanks.

They broke the deadlock early on when a handball decision provided them with a penalty which Liam Sweeny slotted away.

Media continued to push and were rewarded with their second not long after when Russ Ingham’s shot was fired into the roof of the net, despite the opposition’s cries of offside.

The third goal came when Tom Fraser’s darting run into the box left him one on one with the keeper. A heavy touch was helped into the net by the supporting Steven Holden.

Media’s emphatic start to the match was not finished, as another Tom Fraser run resulted in the second penalty decision of the afternoon. Sweeney would not be so lucky this time, however, as a clever kick was read by Bedians’ keeper.

The second half saw more of the same, as Media attacked well to kill the game while remaining solid at the back.

The next goal came after Steven Holden had been hacked down for Media’s third penalty of the afternoon.

This time Sweeney stepped up and made no mistake, shooting high to the keeper’s right.

Media rounded off the scoring when a Richie Lowry ball to the right was met by Gaz Holden. Holden played a dangerous ball into the box which eluded the keeper. It was his first goal in Media colours.

The Media second string wasn’t so lucky and went down 2-1 to Stoconians.

This coming weekend Media travel to play South Manchester. The second team plays host to Spurley Hey at Bowlee, kick-off 2pm.
