Backlog grows for footballers

THE irony probably wasn’t lost on the Middleton Sunday League’s fixture planners as the midweek games, arranged to clear an increasing backlog, were played, only for Sunday’s scheduled fixtures to be washed out by heavy overnight rain.
That midweek trio of fixtures had huge significance at both ends of the Premier Division table.
