Two divisions plan to be looked at by clubs

WALSDEN Cricket Club have made radical proposals to "improve" the Central Lancashire League.

They suggest the league should be split into two geographical divisions.

In each division, teams would play each other home and away.

They would also play the teams in the other division once.

This would mean 22 league matches for each club, instead of the 30 as it is now, and the winners of each division would play a final to decide the CLL champions.

The suggestion from Walsden is that matches would be played mainly on Sundays.

Walsden feel their proposals would mean more reserve dates available for rain-affected fixtures, and more dates to accommodate cup and inter-league matches and Twenty20 fixtures.

The suggested divisions would be:

Conference A: Crompton, Oldham, Heywood, Milnrow, Norden, Littleborough, Rochdale, Walsden.

Alpha Conference: Royton, Werneth, Ashton, Clifton, Middleton, Monton and Weaste, Radcliffe, Unsworth.

The proposals were put to club delegates at a CLL meeting last Thursday night, but delegates asked for more time to consider them at their club level.

League secretary Alan Wright said either a special meeting would be called, or the proposals would be discussed at the league’s normal October meeting.
