Big hitting helps make tournament a smash hit

THE British Asian Sports and Arts Foundation (BASAF) organised a great cricketing competition at Thornham CC, featuring teams from all over England with international players from West Indies, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The Bukhari Superstars, The Kunain Kings, Lahore Greens, Milnrow CC, MS Sports, The Punjab Warriors, Shahs, Thornham CC and Unique made up the nine teams who entered into the charity six-a-side tournament and the crowds were treated to big hitting, fast action and quality players.
The nine teams were split into two groups with the first and second place teams going through to the semi finals and then to the final.
The games themselves were played as five over matches with a new bowler each over.
With scores as high as 87 off just five overs, little wonder the crowd enjoyed the day so much.
Unique Sports triumphed over Milnrow CC in the final by 20 runs.
The real winners of the day however, were Springhill Hospice and Thornham CC who were presented with a gift of £900 by the Mayor of Rochdale on behalf of the BASAF.
More than 300 people witnessed the event, and at the end BASAF committee members thanked all the sponsors, Thornham CC and all the volunteers who had made the event possible.
