Middleton reach final of eight-a-side tournament

CRICKET was the winner at Hare Hill after yet another wet weekend.

Littleborough Cricket Club staged their second under 11s eight-a-side tournament with seven teams taking to the field, playing in two groups.

Littleborough A dominated their group winning all four games with all players playing their part. Middleton came second winning two games and although Royton B brought up the rear they did not disgrace themselves, taking into account they were an under 10s team.

In the other group defending champions Rochdale won all three games to go through to the semi finals.

It was a tight contest for second with Clifton just pipping Royton A and Littleborough B in fourth.

The semi finals were extremely close with both games going down to the last ball.

Clifton kept out Littleborough A's last ball to pip them by one run, and the same happened in the other semi-final, Middleton edging out Rochdale to go through to the final. Unfortunately, the weather and the light were deteriorating fast.

Middleton batted first and made 132, but only two overs were possible of the Clifton innings. It just became too dark and with the safety of the players the most important factor the match had to be abandoned with the finalists holding the trophy for six months each.

Every player enjoyed themselves and had a whale of a time which is the main purpose of the event. All of them were a credit to their clubs, coaches and parents and will be invited back to compete for the trophy next year.
