Bean batters Mersey

LEADERS Alderley Edge had their gallop halted by Nantwich in a rain-reduced Right Move Abroad ECB Cheshire County Premier League programme.

However, they didn’t lose much ground because principal challengers Bowdon failed to make a start, third-placed Hyde only managed eight draw points at home to Macclesfield, and champions Oulton Park scrambled a 10 points draw at Neston.

Towards the bottom of the table, Toft eased further away from the drop zone with a 26-run win at Heaton Mersey where they posted 149 (Brenton McDonald 5-39).

Mersey were dismissed for 123, with Aussie leg spinner Josh Bean taking 5-50.

After losing their first nine games, then drawing three, Bollington registered an overdue maiden victory in Division One when they beat Poynton by six wickets.

In an 82 overs game, Poynton posted 166 for 4 (Nafees Din 43 not out, Brian Kingham 42), only for Bolly to sail home at 167 for 4 (Martyn Knight 50, Rick Hough 45).

At the other end of the table, Oxton drew level on points with Didsbury with an impressive 58-run win on Christleton’s near-perfect batting track.

Didsbury only managed seven points from a home game against Cheadle Hulme, scoring 152 for 7 (Trevor Gane 66). Former Didsbury left-arm spinner Chris Maudsley proved their undoing with an admirable 6-42.

Cheadle Hulme recovered from 25 for 6 to close on 106 for 8 (A Ballieze 40 not out, C Durham 34, Peter Manser 5-33).

Cheadle ended a run of six defeats with a four-wicket success at home to Warrington.

They replied with 148 for 6 (Dan Schuppan 70 not out, Paul Agar 4-63) after Warrington had declared on 147 for 9 (Mal Agar 41, R Malook 5-50).

Bramhall’s home game against Upton was a victim of week-long bad weather.

There appears to be nothing to stop Irby at the top of Division Two. They stretched their lead to 33 points with a two-wicket home win against Stockport Georgians, who were bowled out for 159 (K Holsgrove 4-58, George McCaffery 4-38).

Mike Newman scored 48 and Adrian Kinsey 44 in Irby’s winning reply.

Mobberley won by five wickets at Marple after restricting their hosts to 178 for 5 (Adam Newington 65, Garry Cash 54 not out).

Sound batting from Younis Khan (44) and Pani Hussain (39 not out) saw Mobberley home.

Two games - Burnage versus Bredbury St Marks and Sale vs Tattenhall - were cancelled due to waterlogged pitches.

THE League lost by 54 runs to the North Yorks and South Durham League in the quarter-final of the President’s Trophy on Sunday.
