MIDDLETON were eliminated from this season’s JW Lees/CLL Twenty20 Cup last Friday evening without playing their third group game.

Rules allow for a bowl out if no play is possible, but with the rain pouring down at Norden the next option of the toss of a coin was taken.

Middleton skipper John Punchard correctly called heads to give the Moonrakers the victory and two points.

The other group fixture saw Heywood beat Rochdale on the toss of a coin, and this meant Norden, Heywood and Middleton all had four points.

Run rate came into the equation and it meant Norden and Heywood going into the quarter-finals and Middleton bowing out.
