Middleton CC have announced professional Ken Skewes will not be returning to the club for the 2010 season.

A club statement cited personal and professional reasons behind Skewes’ decision not to come back for a second season.

It was amateur v amateur on Saturday as Radcliffe made the trip to Towncroft to face the Moonrakers in glorious sunshine. Although both sides were without a professional, it was down to a very professional performance from the home side, none more so that off spinner Daniel Core, that brought home victory in a comfortable eight-wicket win.

At Hare Hill, the 1st XI were defeated by the delayed play rule despite being in a dominant position, whereas at Towncroft the 2nd XI were rained off after being in total command.

THE rain halted a possible Middleton victory midway through the game against Royton on Saturday, with the match being abandoned at the tea interval.

AFTER facing two defeats in the final over this season, at home against Littleborough and away to Heywood, Middleton finally had something to cheer about after a nail-biting final over thriller at Ladyhouse Lane against Milnrow on Sunday.

On an overcast day, skipper Steve Davey won the toss and decided to bat first, but the visitors soon found themselves in trouble at 13 for 2 with Scott Stanworth (4) and deputy professional Thomas Plant (4) of Australia both back in the pavilion.

The book includes a collection of fresh, amusing stories and highlights cricket’s north-south divide by comparing the timid, friendly games he sauntered through in London in the 1960s and 70s with the somewhat more combative league battles fought out in Yorkshire and Lancashire since then.

CRICKETERS from home and abroad are joining together to play a fundraising Twenty20 match at Middleton CC this week.

The event, played on Friday, is the brainchild of long-time Middleton player Barry Hamilton who decided to help the Cancer Research organisation after his father was struck down by the illness.

WALSDEN were the visitors to Towncroft on Saturday in what was a crucial top of the table clash in the Central Lancashire League.

With the visitors in fourth place and the Moonrakers fifth it was all to play for on a gloriously sunny day. And it was Middleton who were left smiling as they leap-frogged Walsden into fourth with all five points after a fine all round display.

Seconds always on back foot at Scott Street
