1. A veritable treasure trove
Middleton Guardian, Thursday 11 September 2008I WAS excited to be offered an album belonging to Edith Tomlinson (who died recently), a life-long member of St Peter's Church, Blackley. Photographs were of the village, the church and its processions.

3. St Leonard and the dreaded stocks
Middleton Guardian, Thursday 8 May 2008IN SOME early photographs, taken when the area (now Jubilee Park) was still agricultural land, the church could clearly be seen, proudly overlooking the town that had grown up around it. Mr Wheeler lived in New Lane. Part of the field was his well manicured garden. The church is now surrounded by trees and can no longer be seen from some areas.
4. 'Dis-grave-ful' cemetery
Middleton Guardian, Thursday 1 May 2008"YOU can tell the state of a nation by the way it cares for its dead". I heard this quote a number of years ago though I cannot find who originally said it, or where. However, it bears truth.
