'Mafia godmother' arrested at home

THESE world exclusive pictures show the moment alleged mafia "godmother" Ann Hathaway was arrested by police.

As gale force winds and rain whipped in the sky above, Ms Hathaway, wearing a fur coat and sunglasses, was led from her home in Middleton to an unmarked police vehicle at 1.40pm yesterday.

Officers from the Scotland Yard's Extradition Unit, assisted by Greater Manchester Police, took Ms Hathaway to a station in Manchester. She will appear at the City of Westminster Magistrates' Court, central London, today.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "At 13.40, Ann Hathaway, 44, of Green Street, Middleton, was arrested by officers from the Extradition Unit under a European arrest warrant issued by the Italian authorities. She was arrested under the offence of participation in a criminal organisation."

The warrant for Ms Hathaway's arrest was issued in December after Italian police alleged she had help run her husband's mafia crime empire while he was behind bars for drug trafficking and the murder of Milanese lawyer Antonio Mirabelle.

Italian prosecutors allege Ms Hathaway was much more than a gangster's moll, helping Antonio Rinzivillo continue the family business from prison by running messages from him to his associates and by laundering cash. The "family business" allegedly specialises in drug dealing, extortion and arms trafficking.

Ms Hathaway, a mother-of-two who attended Moorclose Secondary School, moved back to Middleton from her home in Rome 15 months ago.

Her Friends Reunited profile reads: "When I left Moorclose I went dancing in Italy and lived in Milan a few years. I then went to live in Sicily with my husband. Seven years later we moved to Rome and I stayed there for 16 years."

She adds: "On the 16th December 2005 I came home for christmas and decided to stay here, with my two daughters...and give good old England a go! Miss the weather, ha ha ciao."

What's the big deal? All these Thugs roaming the streets attacking old people are much worse. As for thr mafia. They haven't done me any harm.May be they can put a contract on all these scumbags roaming thr streets up to no good. It's obvious the Police don't seem to bother much.
