Missing man found dead

A GRIEVING widow has spoken of her devastation after her husband's body was found in the Rochdale Canal on Sunday morning.

Paula Miller and her family are still at loss at how her husband Terry came to meet his death.

At about 11am on 24 September the police's underwater search unit recovered the body of 38-year-old Terry from the canal behind the Ship Inn at Slattocks. It is believed a member of the public had made the grim discovery and informed the emergency services.

Terry had been missing since the previous Tuesday, when he left his new home in Rochdale to buy some bread and milk and never came back.

Until recently the family had lived on Sherbourne Road, Hollin but, although they had moved away, they regularly returned to Middleton to visit Terry's grandmother May Miller, who lives on Windermere Road, Langley.

His widow and the mother of his three children, Paula Miller, told the Guardian that the family had been left distraught by the tragedy.

She said: "It is a mystery. Terry was a non-swimmer and I cannot understand how he came to be in the canal in Middleton.

"He may have been on the way to visit his granny."

One theory put forward by the family is that Terry may have had a heart attack before falling into the canal. His grandmother, May, said the whole family - especially his children Danielle, aged 10; Luke, aged four; and 10-month-old Paris - were heartbroken.

She said: "He was a loving father and will be terribly missed."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a post mortem examination had been carried out and there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding Terry's death

The matter has now been referred to the coroner and it is expected that an inquest will be held at a later date.

I would Like to point out that Terry Miller was a father to 5 children. I was one that was not mentioned, as was my younger brother Rikki. We were both devastated by this as I'm sure my father would have been.
