A LANGLEY pub on has been closed down by police, just a month after being raided by Tactical Aid officers.
The King's Arms pub was the scene of a shooting on Good Friday and was then raided by police officers almost two weeks later, at dawn on 26 April.
Detective Chief Inspector Jeff McMahon, from Rochdale CID, said the move came after police expressed concerns about the way in which it was being run.
He said: "We spoke to the brewery and they agreed to close it, pending the appointment of a new manager."
On the night of Good Friday (14 April), five shots were fired at Higher Wood Street hostelry.
Although there were customers in the pub at the time, no-one was injured.
At the time Catherine Ormrod, landlady of the pub, told the Guardian: "It was frightening. We were sat in the pub, there were about 25 people. It was mostly regulars and my friends, and then the gun shots came in through the window.
"At first we thought it was fireworks but then we saw the holes in the window and called the police.
"We saw about three bullets but the police said there were five. One came in and went through the speaker, another one came in through the wall and the other one came in through the window."
This came after a series of shootings, which began on 9 April when five bullets were fired at a flat on Lower Bamford Close, Cheapside.
Later that week, on 13 April, shots were fired at houses on Myrtle Road, Boarshaw and Wood Street.
In response to this escalation in gun crime, police officers carried out dawn raids on 14 Langley properties on 19 and 26 April.
Nine people were arrested, two of which have since been charged. Both are currently remanded in custody and set to appear at Bolton Crown Court on 11 July.
They are 18-year-old Warren Leigh, of Ullswater Drive, who has been charged with one count of robbery and two counts of witness intimidation, and a 17-year-old youth, of Mellalieu Street, who cannot be named for legal reasons, who has been charged with robbery and four counts of witness intimidation.
