Horse owners told to clean up their act

A BLIND Langley man is concerned about the cleanliness of pavements after he accidentally stood in horse manure last week.

Kevin Greenan, of Bowness Road, Langley was walking home last Thursday afternoon, and as he approached his home he realised he had stood in something unpleasant.

He said: "It is disgusting behaviour, when a dog makes his mess the owner is expected to clear it up off the pavement, the same should apply to horses.

"It is causing a health risk for residents in the area, and I want to know why it wasn't cleared away immediately and why a horse was allowed to walk on the pavement in the first place.

"I am very concerned as this is an area where a lot of elderly and disabled residents live, it's also near a place where young children play and its a major health risk for them.

"What if someone pushing their own wheelchair was to go over it, they'd get the mess all over their hands."

Middleton street services Manager Mick Ripley said: "If we had received a report that there was horse manure on the foot way, I would have arranged to have it cleared up as soon as possible.

"It would have had to be reported to the call centre for any such arrangement to be made.

"Street sweeping, other than in the town centre, is done on a fortnightly cycle.
