Knee-high newlyweds have the awww factor

IF YOU think doctors look like they should still be at school and policemen seem just out of short trousers, you'll be glad you were not at St Mary's Church on Tuesday.

For Miss Ellie May Wilkie and Master Alex Stafford were married in a joint wedding with Miss Jessica Tyrrell and Master Jayson Bevan, with the blessing of staff at Furrow Community Primary - aged four to five.

The happy couples left the Windemere Road school grounds in a stylish limousine, and were swept off to the church for a service at 2pm.

But there was no carrying across the threshold or tropical honeymoon for the knee-high newlyweds, the ceremony was part of a school project on marriage and was not legally binding - much to the disappointment of local lawyers.

The children have been learning all about 'special times' as part of their project work this term, and the wedding and celebration party which followed was the highlight of the topic.

The occasion was 'officiated' by Lisa Philomena McDonagh, supported by Rev Philip Miller who is the Deputy chairman of Governors at the school. Bridesmaids on the day were Destiny Keddie, Courtney Smith, Rebecca Dow and Eleanor Nolan, with Louisa Johnson as the flower girl.

Other guests of honour included Chris Windle, Furrow headteacher, Terry Linden, chairman of Governors, and assorted teachers and class friends.

Ms Windle said: "It was a very nice ceremony and the children behaved themselves beautifully.

"We all enjoyed the occasion - even if it could be viewed as a little premature!"
