Animals in pain is no joke, says Steve

ANIMAL rights workers have pleaded with Middleton comedian Steve Coogan not to joke about animal suffering.
Coogan has been sent a plea by the UKs leading anti-vivisection campaigning group, the BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection) to think again before joking about animal suffering.
Reports have circulated that Mr Coogan is planning a new BBC adult cartoon series called I Am Not An Animal, in which animals in a vivisection laboratory will be portrayed living a "pampered life in a luxurious club class wing of a secret lab."
The BUAV reminded Mr Coogan that the truth is that animals in laboratories can endure a catalogue of horrendous cruelty. Such as being poisoned; deprived of food, water or sleep; applied with skin and eye irritants; subjected to psychological stress; deliberately infected with disease; brain damaged; paralysed; surgically mutilated; irradiated; burned; gassed; force fed and electrocuted.
BUAV campaigns director, Wendy Higgins said: "We really do hope that these rumours are false, because to portray the lives of lab animals as anything other than a living torture, would not only be deeply crass but also irresponsible.
"If he really is planning to do this project, the BUAV has strongly urged Steve to think again, terminate the project immediately and concentrate his considerable talents on a more worthy project."
