Contestant cops off with councillor in radio 'blind date'

LOVE was on the agenda when a local councillor walked into Middleton's radio station recently.

For Councillor Peter Dawson was persuaded by Middleton Radio boss Johnathan Burns to take part in a live 'Blind Date' broadcast.

Organised by Anne Marshall aka radio presenter Pink Diva - who runs the Middleton Guardian-sponsored Popstars group - there was a romantic dinner date with a local woman, named only as Grace from Moorclose, up from grabs.

Grace questioned them over the air and finally decided that - sight unseen - Peter was the best choice for the Valentine celebrations at Tapios on Heywood Old Road.

Peter, of Acresfield Road, Boarshaw said he was astounded by his selection.

"I just couldn't believe it when I was told she had chosen me," he said. "I gave some naff answers to questions. For instance when I was asked what was the last book I read, I replied 'Memories of Middleton'.

"I even warned her that I was a large man who would have to borrow Bernard Manning's dinner jacket for the date, but it didn't seem to put her off. But I'm glad it didn't put her off, we had a marvellous evening at the restaurant. She was a lovely woman."
