School celebrates at the double

11/ 2/2002

A SCHOOL enjoyed a double celebration last week with two presentations on the same day.

Staff at the Alderman Kay School, on Tintern Road, Hollin, recognised the hard work that 13-year-old Kyle Filer has put into his schoolwork with a Childer Award, and the school was later presented with a selection of books, thanks to a donation from the Asda superstore in Rochdale.

Judith Dixon, headteacher, said: "The Childer award is designed for achievement and progression and we felt that Kyle has really worked hard. He has made a huge effort, is improving all the time and thoroughly deserves the award."

The gift of books, presented by Asda Charity Co-ordinator Faye Sharples, is the result of the Access Partnership, which involves local businesses either sponsoring schools or helping with the cost of materials.

Mrs Dixon added: "We are very grateful to Asda. The books are about safety in the community and will tie up with the school's citizenship programme, which teaches our pupils how to be safe."
