Centre plans go on show

AN exhibition revealing exciting new plans for Middleton town centre will be on show to the public over the next two days.

The plans, which show early ideas for the future development and improvement of the centre, including options for improving transport provision and creating a more pedestrian friendly environment, will be on display in Middleton shopping centre.

As well as highlighting where future development can happen and where existing shops can be improved, there will also be information on how the streets and public spaces can be made more attractive for people to use.

And members of the public will be asked to give their views on the plans and let the developers know what they think.

Andrew Swaby from Rochdale Development Agency (RDA) said he was looking forward to meeting the public and hearing their thoughts, ideas and suggestions on these plans.

He added: "These are exciting times for Middleton town centre with a lot of new developments on site or due to start in the near future.

"However it is important we identify future options for the town centre if we are to keep this momentum going."

With the opening of the new bus station, the imminent relocation of the Civic Centre, the arrival of Tesco and the extension to the shopping centre, this is a time of great change for Middleton.

But to continue to build on these recent achievements, RDA together with the Middleton township regeneration group have been busy identifying further regeneration opportunities to make the town even more attractive and successful.

The exhibition will take place at Middleton shopping centre and will be open today (Thursday) between 4pm and 7.30pm for local businesses and traders, and on Friday between 10am and 4pm and Saturday between 11am and 4pm for residents.

After this weekend, the exhibition will be on display at Middleton Library for a further two weeks. For those not able to make the event, the plans can also be viewed at RDA's website - click on the link below.
