Skate star savaged by dog

A PROMISING young skater was mauled by a Rottweiler as he practised in Limefield Park.

Jordan Watkins suffered two bite marks on his leg in a terrifying five-minute ordeal.

The 13-year-old told how the Rottweiler and a Jack Russell were unsupervised and came out of nowhere before they set upon him.

He had to climb to the top of a ramp in the skate park to escape the ferocious attack.

Jordan said: "It was scary. I was just screaming and lashing out at the dogs. I didn't think the Rottweiler was going to let go. I was worried that it was going to end my career in skating.

"I was just relieved to get away. I'm still in shock now."

The Middleton Technology School pupil, who has roller bladed in competitions across Greater Manchester, had been practising in the park, off Manchester Old Road, on Monday 16 September at about 5.30pm when the attack happened.

He cycled back to his home on Kenyon Lane, Moorclose, in agony and was taken to hospital by mum Janey.

She said: "When he came back he was terrified. He had cuts and bruises on his legs, swelling and bruises all up his arms where the dogs had jumped up at him.

"If it wasn't for that skate ramp, who knows what would have happened. It could have saved his life."

Janey, 49, blasted the irresponsible owner of the dogs who let them roam free at Limefield Park.

"I'd like to see the owners prosecuted," she said. "There was nobody there with these dogs and there are babies in that park. I sometimes take my granddaughter there. I'm really annoyed, they should keep their dogs under control."

Police have been made aware of the incident and their inquiries are on-going. Anyone with information on the attack can call Greater Manchester Police on 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 111 555.

why do people get these dogs if they don't want to look after them ? This poor kid could have been seriously injured. They should fine the owners and take the dogs from them
