SOME of the town's grandest buildings will be throwing open their doors this weekend as part of Heritage Open Days.

Throughout this weekend properties of architectural distinction all over the country will be allowing visitors in free of charge.

And in Middleton you can visit the ancient Parish Church, the Tudor Old Grammar School, and Edgar Wood's Arts and Crafts/Art Nouveau masterpiece, Long Street Methodist Church.

At the Parish Church you will be able to do some brass rubbings with guided tours of the church on Friday at 11am, Saturday at 11.30am and 2pm, and on Sunday at 1pm. The church is open Friday and Saturday 11am-4pm, and on Sunday 12.30- 4pm.

The Old Grammar School is open on Saturday11am-4pm and Sunday 12-4pm. The family history group will be on hand to help you find out more about your own heritage.

Long Street Methodist Church is open Friday and Saturday 11am-4pm and on Sunday from 12.15pm to 4 pm. Andy Marshall’s photographic exhibition of Edgar Wood’s buildings in Middleton is now on permanent display in the church school rooms - thanks to a grant from Middleton Township - and there is also an English Heritage display on the roofs of England.

These buildings have been called Middleton’s Golden Cluster, as they and the Olde Boar’s Head, are all grouped conveniently together.

On Saturday at 2pm there is a guided walk starting at Long Street Church to look at the Edgar Wood buildings in the Conservation Area, and people joining the walk will receive a copy of a booklet specially written by the conservation officer.
