TWO teenagers have appeared in court charged with robbery after a pensioner was carjacked.

The terrified 76-year-old man was forced out of his vehicle on The Meadows in Alkrington and left by the side of the road, police said.

His car was later recovered and two teenagers were arrested and then formally charged.

Darren Burns, 18, of Ashton Old Road, Openshaw, was charged with robbery, aggravated taking of a vehicle without consent, disqualified driving and driving without insurance.

A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with aggravated taking of a vehicle without consent and robbery.

The pair appeared before magistrates in Rochdale on Monday and were committed to Bolton Crown Court to stand trial in December. Both were granted bail.

Detectives working the case have appealed for any witnesses to the incident, which happened on Friday 29 August at about 8pm, to come forward.
