THERE were tears of joy at Middleton Technology School as students celebrated another year of phenomenal results.

Once again the school achieved its target of 80 per cent of pupils gaining five or more GCSE passes at grades A* to C.

And among those jumping for joy were lads Tom Stewart and Ryan Foden.

High achiever Tom, who gained an amazing 11 A*s and two As, is now heading to Crompton House to study for A levels in music, German, English literature and politics. "It wasn't what I expected," he said. "I didn’t expect to do this well."

Friend Ryan was also smiling after collecting his results - 11 A*s and three As. He said: "I'm pleased with my results. I'm going to Oldham sixth form now to study German, law, physics and English language."

The girls also scored high with Rachael Burrows and Chloe Millett gaining incredible marks.

Rachael, who got eight A*s, two As and three Bs is also heading to Oldham Sixth Form to study law, maths, history and sociology.

Speaking of her marks, she said: "I hoped for this but I was a bit unsure. But I'm really pleased."

Chloe gained eight A*s and five As and is setting off for Holy Cross in September for A levels in law, history, English, psychology and critical thinking.

"I hoped to do well," she said. "I was really nervous and didn't know what to expect."

Twins Rebecca and Rachel Scanlon were also thrilled – even though they are now heading in different directions.

Rebecca gained five A*s and eight As, while her sister achieved four As, eight Bs and two Cs. Rachel is starting Holy Cross in September while Rebecca is off to Crompton House.

Rachel said: "Our parents are both very proud. I was sad at first about going to different colleges. I will probably miss Rebecca more than she'll miss me!"

Kath Smart, assistant headteacher, said the results reflected all the hard work put in by students and staff.

She said: "The school achieved 80 per cent at grades A* to C which was our target.

"Every young person has really achieved their maximum. And 63 per cent gained five passes at A* to C including English and maths.

"We’re up on last year. There has been a huge effort from the English and maths department.

"The headteacher, Allison Crompton is absolutely thrilled with the fantastic results.

"This is the fifth successive year we’ve had 80 per cent of students gain the government target.

"A big thank you goes to the all the students and staff for all their hard work and the parents for all their support.

"We are opening the collaborative sixth form this year with St Anne’s and Cardinal Langley and we hope to build on the current success.

"We’re now looking forward to next year."
