Pounding the 10K beat

Laura Kenny
8/ 5/2008

POUNDING the pavements is all in the line of duty for police community support officers Dave Quinn and James Butterworth.

But now 25-year-old Dave and 22-year-old James, who are both based in Middleton police station, are putting their best foot forward for the Great Manchester 10k Run on the 18 May.

Along with putting themselves through their paces, the pair, who have both been training for several months, hope to raise money for charity.

Father-of-two Dave, who has two daughters aged four and 14 months-old, plans to run the race for the NSPCC while James, who is originally from Bury, will run in aid of the Magic Moments for Autistic Kids charity.

James said: "I used to run at school and have been training since January, running two or three times a week. It was just something that Dave mentioned and then we started egging each other on and there is definitely a bit of healthy competition between us.

"We'd like to run the course in under an hour but the most important thing is raising as much as we can for charity.
