Comrades in arms give Terry a proper send-off

EX-SERVICEMEN and women came out in force to bid a fond farewell to a community stalwart.

Family and friends of Terry McLoughlin, who passed away on 31 March, joined together last Thursday to give the great-great grandad a fitting send-off.

Mr McLoughlin, a Royal Navy veteran who served in the Second World War, passed away in hospital after a short illness at the age of 83.

He had been an active member of the community and had been the secretary, and later president, of the north Manchester branch of the Royal Naval Association.

And in tribute to his tireless service to his country and his fellow servicemen, he was given full military honours at his funeral.

Committee member at the VASA Club in Blackley, Charles Le Clere, said: "It is a sad loss and a blow to a lot of us.

"He will be missed, not only by those at the north Manchester branch, but by the Royal Navy Association as a whole."

Dozens turned out for his funeral at Blackley Crematorium last Thursday, including John Stalker, former Deputy Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police.

"It just shows how much people thought of him," added Mr Le Clere. "He used to organise all our Sea Sunday events every July and was our delegate at conferences. He will be greatly missed. He was a stalwart for us."

The father of three lived in Langley.
