Thank you Middleton, from 40 Commando in Afghanistan

13/ 3/2008

THANK you. That's the message from this group of Royal Marines who are fighting the war on terror in Afghanistan.

The brave lads serving on the front line with the 40 Commado troop have sent a huge thank-you to Guardian readers for all the shoeboxes crammed full of presents that have been sent since the start of our Christmas 'Support Our Soldiers' appeal.

The appeal started last November when Luke Morton's dad, Alan, contacted the Guardian about the plight of the troops and asked people to send over gifts for the festive period.

And the response was incredible with hundreds of boxes and letters making their way over to the war-torn country.

Last month, Royal Marine Luke visited the Guardian offices while on a two week break and thanked everyone who had supported the appeal.
